Debra.
Yes it was Bean Head. I had forgotten his name, and yes he was big and ran with that crowd. Thanks.

Jerry, sipping the gods nector can make u do things out of character. U must have had a taste that night cause u weren't trying 2 save me from falling out of the chair u were yanking me out of the chair. And yes it was out of character 4 u. U were a good kid most of the time. But sometimes shit happens. Especially when nector, friends, girls and a good dance is envolved.

No I don't hold that, or all those times when u didn't hand me the football on the goal line but keep it ur self to sneek in for 6, against u. But hay, I just remember those things and without any hard feelings. I still think of u as a friend. No hard fellings here. I was just telling a true story about back when and it just happened 2 be one of ur off nights when u were playing the devil.

Life is 2 short 2 be mad at anything for 40 yrs. The stories i tell come from just memories and I love u all.
And if the stories I write makes those old rusty gears between ur ears turn then I win.
If I was 2 hate anything it would be that dam com that carried all those terrible invitations 2 the devils den.

Using mad. U have 2 remember I wasn't and still am not a big guy, so i learned 2 use mad and other thing in my arsonal for any advantage. When I was scared, taken by surprise or facing superman challenges, yes I was motovated by mad. It always got my adrenelen pumping for the feat at hand. Sometimes it was 4 the good & other times who knows.
But I owe u a good hair pulling. LOL
give em hell Jerry
Glad ur on the forum

I don't remember Mr. Pollard at all. I must have slipped under his radar.

Deborah Nelson (Ferriter)

Jan you have got to remember him and Mr. Phillips ( I think that was his name)... Phillips was short and Mr. Pollard was very tall...remember when we would get our dresses check to make sure they were long enough??

04/07/10 05:39 PM #165

Lloyd Singer

Malcom Atwood & Frank Pollard.... Bob Phillips had moved up to "Superentendent" as Dr. Damron had just left. (someone correct me if I'm wrong??) Atwood was principle and Pollard the vice principle our freshman year. MUTT & JEFF Atwood short w/no chin... Pollard tall black hair and black glasses... I remember overhearing Atwood say to Pollard as we exited our 1st class assembly.... "This is the worst bunch of Freshmen we've had!" Very Motivating !!

04/07/10 07:18 PM #166

Donna Bookout (Henthorn)

I remember all those men (Atwood & Pollard & Phillips).....and that makes me a bit midft (is that a word??) to know that their opinion (per Lloyd) of our class was "the worst bunch of freshmen" ......geez! Well, at any rate I just don't accept that and I think we're a pretty good group! so there........now do you want to know how I really feel about this!! LOL

Jan: Do you remember Mr. Atwood? He's the one who gave you, Melanie, Roxanne and me his version of "the birds and the bees" lecture (we were called one at a time to the office) after that infamous Dallas trip when Mr. Greer (Clyde, the band director) caught us with a rather drunk college boy in our room. One boy - 4 girls with curtains wide open, lights on, everyone fully clothed, yadda, yadda, yadda. We were branded after that (ha ha). Clyde got a tip from someone and went outside and was standing on our ground floor balcony with hands on hips, legs wide spread in his "kick butt" stance when we spotted him. The rest, as they say is history. Do you remember that ordeal?

Cindi,
U mentioned our senior trip 2 Pala Duro a few posts ago. Man I have some really fond memories about that place. I first went there when I was a 4th grader at Happy. Zeak Frost's Dad took several of us on a weekend camping trip there. What Fun! We did devils slide, followed those never ending creeks, swam and climed the rim. The 1st time I heard the Mom's & Popp's Monday, Monday was at the Canyon. My art class went there 2 draw, now thats a story. Me, Miller and Pope went there a few times and the senor trip was there.
I have some stories about that place if anyone wants 2 hear them.
Do any of u know the History of the place? If u do then u know the story of the horses, the Native Americans, Tule Creek, Makensy, the government connection, the Oklahoma connection and all the namings.
But maybe I need 2 shut up for a while and let others tell stories. I admit I have been taking up a lot of space and time on this forum and I didn't realize it till lately. Sorry all ya'll if I've been a space hog. It's just that it's been 40 years and no way 2 keep in touch.
I want 2 hear more about Perry and Larry's night that ended up with Perry in jail. Come on tell it dudes, don't be scared. I'm waiting and listening.

Cindi,
That band director was Clyde Wilson. I recall the incident you mentioned. Everybody was talkin about that!!

Wilson kicked me out of band one day just for crossing my legs!!! I couldn't believe it! He had harped on our posture... but who thinks about those things?? After a few days attending my new PE class, I was called to the office and Atwood told me that Mr. Wilson had decided that I could come back to band. Maybe he changed his mind because my dad was president of the "Band Parents" orginization???

Perry Hall

My night in jail was because I was driving the get-away car. My brother and one of his friends had the loot or whatever.

The next night the cops pulled Larry and I over. He got to drive my car home. I was offered a ride I could not refuse, and I did not get to drive. It was a scenic ride as we went around picked up the others.

Now all of us have worked for the government in some capacity and the country is still safe. My brother Terry went on to help form up the Army's Delta Team and stayed in for 21 years. I gave them seven, but realized that people shoot at you if you are leading a Recon Unit.

I would have still been in jail if Larry had given the policeman the little white duck that somehow got into the car and given to his girlfriend.

Have a good one.

Lloyd: You are absolutely right. It was Wilson not Greer. Now I'm stuck with trying to figure out who the heck Clyde Greer is because that name is all too familiar! Gee, I need to double up on my Ginko. Ha

Wasn't Clyde the one who yelled at Milton by calling him "Milton Mickey Mouse Simon"? The other band director in high school was Charlie Brown right? Bruce Cook was there during junior high. What great memories from band trips! Tell Randy the crossing of your legs was at the ankles. He will feel better about it. Ha

Perry/Randy: I love your strolls down memory lane. These are stories most of us never heard. Thanks for sharing.

Now....if someone can help out with triggering my brain to remember the Greer name or the name of that science teacher I posted earlier. I need to clear out those memory cubbyholes so I can store more important stuff. Like where I put my darn car keys!!

Perry,
All I can say is u needed 2 drive faster, like Zeva on NCIS.
Little white duck??? Whats that?? Is that a code 4 something? Maybe it's a top secret thing.
Surely it not the little rubber bathtub ducky.
Clueless.

About the leg crossing, to be precise, it was "left ankle on the right knee". That way I could lazily rest my trombone on the elvated left knee...

Yes in Jr high band it was Mr. Brooks. He was hinda whimpy and one day everyone was acting up and in his frustration he lashed out at Cheeta for some little something and made her cry. I remember that because it pissed me off!

Then as frosh, we had Clyde Wilson. Simon was always cutting up and as you said became known as Milton"mickey mouse"Simon.
Do you remember when Clyde yelled through his bullhorn during marching practice," _ _ _ _ _ _, put your legs together, you could drive a truck though there!' Every body cracked up and both he and the girl turned beet red!!

Charlie Brown was our last leader.

As to Mr.Greer... I'm thinking maybe he was in Jr High??? I'm really not sure but I couldn't find any Greer in the 67,68,69,70 yr books. And again, I couldn't find the mysterious biology teacher??

Cindi! You and I talked about that Dallas band trip during a "sleep-over" at your house in Richardson(?). I can remember a little bit, but don't remember the "birds and the bees" lecture. I'd LOVE to know what he said to us.

Debby! Didn't we have to "stand" on our knees to prove that our skirts would touch the floor? Surely one of the female teachers or administrators had this duty? The
MEN checked our hemlines!? Thank goodness for the Feminist Movement...HEAR ME ROAR!

Perry...you would not believe where I had her hide that Duck !!! What was that little blonde girls name ??

Deborah Nelson (Ferriter)

Lloyd you're right it was Mr. Atwood, and Phillips was the super.. and Cindi yes either that or stand up with arms down and the skirt or dress had to be at your finger tips... and no I remember the principal who would be Atwood, checking mine.. the injustice of it all!! You should see what the girls wear to school up here in Massachusetts.. Mr. Atwood would have a heart attack!!

Cindi it seems the science teacher was Gong or Goaning or something like that, and he skip the whole chapter on the reproductive cycle!! I think he was wicked shy or something.. if my mind serves me right.. which on occassion it fails me..

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Deb: No, the teacher wasn't who you're naming. I think you mean Mr. Goen - the big guy - but that's not the one. I never had Mr. Goen. I think this guy's name was Moore and I remember he taught biology/science. That's the name that keeps popping up in my feeble brain but it doesn't mean it's the right one! He didn't stay very long. In fact, I'm not sure he made it through the first semester. As for the dress code Nazi, it was definitely Mr. Atwood who used to stop me in the hall. I usually had on a skirt (rolled up at the waist a couple of times) so when he would tell me my skirt was too short I would just unroll it until I got out of his sight and then roll it back up. I never got sent home but was threatened often. Like Delia said in her profile about me, there wasn't much to see with my short skirts so I wasn't the threat Cheetah and others were (ha ha). I think Donna's little sister, Kay, may hold the record for being sent home the most times. Donna, do you remember?

Jan: I can't vouch for what Mr. Atwood said to you, Melanie or Roxanne but he pretty much outlined for me what is on the minds of young boys (as if I couldn't figure it out on my own). He warned me about inviting boys into my hotel room and preached the virtues of maintaining an unblemished reputation. I tried to explain that the guy wasn't invited . . . he actually showed up next door and an underclassman brought him over, knocked on the door and when we opened it she shoved him in and left! The guy was Val Cox's roommate, Tim Tingle, (yes that's his real name) from Cisco Jr. College. We had spent the day walking around Six Flags with them (we had no alcohol of course so they must've started drinking after we left). Anyway, my mom still has the "melted & stretched" Dr. Pepper bottle that I bought and took home to my dad from that trip!

Lloyd: Thanks for clearing up the leg crossing incident. I don't remember the unnamed female accused of a stance that would allow a truck to drive through but I'm sure it was a most embarrassing moment for her. Also, verify for me whether it's true that on that infamous Dallas trip some of the guys in our class were actually in the room with females ALL NIGHT partying. I'm not saying you were one of them but I thought you might have knowledge (grin). We got in trouble for a 10 minute visit from one guy but we were ratted out somehow and banished to stay on the bus for the trip home. We didn't get to go into Piccadilly's or Furr's (or whatever that restaurant was where the bus always stopped). Anyway, my mother knew about the incident before the bus ever hit Tulia! I'm surprised we weren't forced to brand the letter "A" on our foreheads. Ahhhh, the good old days! Any trouble I ever got into was worth ever bit of the fun I had while in HS.

Debbie Cox (Johnson)

I asked mom about Clyde Greer. She thinks he was in Junior High. Don't know what he was there.
As far as our last band director. He was the one that was a really big guy, wasn't he. Anyway, you would think it would be pretty hard to flunk band, but I did the first semester senior year, then got out. He and I weren't the best of buddies, to say the least.
