Deltah: What bra? I don't remember those antics either so it was because I wasn't invited or I didn't wear a bra at the time. Ha!

Larry: No problem. I fully understand why guys went gaga over Carol. I may not have understood it at age 16 but I can assure you It's no longer one of life's unsolved mysteries!

Mike: Mrs. Simmons represented all things feminine and was a great combination of sexy and saucy. She made learning English fun! I know she had a large fan base and it wasn't all male. So let's talk about Mrs. Hoyler. Velma or maybe Thelma? (those with a yearbook close by can verify her first name). You still haven't confirmed that you coined her knickname! Lemon Lips, right? If it wasn't you then who? I'm pretty sure you were in her class with me.

O.K., I need some help here. Does anyone remember in our freshman year some "haunted house" that was outside of town somewhere? I just remember some upper classmen (I think) found some old house and fixed it up to scare the beejebers out of people, like a dummy hanging from ceiling, etc. I remember someone driving some of us out there and did scare the beejebers out of me. (It could have been my sis -- Nita -- who liked doing that to me) or so I tell my therapist (LOL)

Also, remember the time Cindi, Beverly and I drove Cindi's dad's Dr. Pepper truck to Plainview to the Hilton Ho-tel because we wanted to see what "prostitutes" looked like. Didn't see any of those, so we just went to the coffee shop and had a coke. I can't believe we were just 14 years old. We thought we were so grown up!!!!

OK ya'll. I think it was at Roxanne's. She had a little house in the back. It was Melanie Butler's bra and she cried. I don't remember anyone else...it sure wasn't mine.:)

Jan Minchew (Sparks)

Deltah: My house had a "little house" in the back yard. Dis Roxanne have one also? I'll bet the frozen bra joke really "perked" everyone up. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Also (Cindi & Deltah), I have a question about the first photo in the "fun pics" section. What was going on there? White dresses. Looks like Home-Ec teachers in the background! ?????

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Deltah: I think that was Roxanne's grandmother's house. It was on Armstrong. I did go to at least one slumber party there but not that one. I bet it was the surprise party for her birthday our 8th grade year that I helped plan with two classmates. I was "dis-invited" by them the day of the party. However, one of them still stopped by my house to pick up the free Dr Pepper. After that I ruined the surprise by telling Roxanne. Bad girl, huh. I still don't know why I was banished.

Sandra: I remember going to that haunted house. I think Jan and I went there on a double date with senior guys our freshman year. I also remember the trip to the Hilton. The guys in our class told us that when the prostitutes were working the sign lit up at night to say "Hilton Hot". We believed it. Having that coke in the coffee shop was a big adventure!

I remember a sleep over at Roxanne's... wow I do have memories after all... yahoooooo

Deltah Roberts (Henard)

The party was across the street from Susie Blount? That just stood out as a memory. I do not remember the "why"!
Cindi, I don't remember you being univited...cruel girls

The first photo in white dresses...8th Grade graduation. Didn't we look ready for High School? Beverly's mom is one of the ladies in the back.

Jan, I remember playing in your backyard when you lived on "Dip Street". I thought you were so lucky! I don't remember a house in the back at either or your houses.

Haunted Houses.. one year my brothers and I had a haunted house in our barn.. when we lived out in the country... before our house burned down.. I don't know if that's the memory or not... but it was pretty cool..I think I was still in junior high when we did it...

Dallana,
Hey girl. Yes me and self have been lucky. We are crazy but I though everyone knew that in JR High. Even rosecolored glasses Dickens saw the crazemad in me. Not saying ur slow r anything.
And I have been lucky 2 escape death and fly under the radar a few times. I learned my lessons, (how to cheat death, how 2 survive and later how 2 fly under the radar), well from the devil (pollard). So self tells me that all that stuff wasn't 4 naught after all.
Give em hell girl

Deb: You guys had a Halloween party in that barn. I remember bobbing for apples and thinking it was the coolest party ever!

Jan: That was indeed 8th grade grad with Deltah, Beverley, Debbie Nelson, Debi Love and Shirley LaDuke. Very virginal looking dressed in white!

Sandra used to live on dip street, too, in that big house (at least it seemed big at the time) on the corner of Floyd I think (south side of dip). I remember lots of good times there. Mostly getting in her big sister, Nita's records and clothes. We wore out a record called "The Little Blue Man".

Cindi, thanks for the ID, it's pretty bad when you can't recognize your ownself... glad you had fun at party we had fun getting it ready... I remember using grapes for some organ of the body...

Sandi (Sandra) Hair (Bentz)

Yep, we lived on the corner of Dip & Floyd across from the park. Had some pretty fun times out in that park too. And yes, when we were little that house seemed so big and with a big back yard with a redwood fence around it. Nita & friends had lots of parties in the back yard and little sis always had to hang around. I think Cindi and I were her worse nightmare. I've seen pictures of it since -- not so big and surely not so pretty as I had rememberd it. It used to be white and someone painted it baby poop yellow. Uge.

Connie and Kay...Hi yall say did'nt you all have two brothers..what were there names.?... Having stayed so many nights at Perrys seems like we all lived close to each other...I still recall that Quonset barn at your place.

Connie Lee (Ash)

Hi Larry, yes, we have two brothers, Terry is 3 years older and Danny is 4 years younger to the day. They are both living in Killeen Texas. I'm thinking that we lived there from 5th-9th grade then moved to town. Lot's of memories there, parties, slumber parties, horse riding, snow sleding, toronado watching. I remember that several of the cheerleaders and others, would like to hoe cotton with us, got paid and got good tans too. We didn't think it was near a treat as they did. I think daddy used to give summer jobs to some of the guys from our class. Lot's of friends traversed that farm in 4 years, probably at least 30 of our classmates.

Deltah/Cornie: I don't remember a frozen bra, but having to make bras and stuff out of burlap to wear as part of initiation into VESPA? and being taken out to roadside park and being blindfolded and having them put peppers in our mouths to eat, onions and a special surprise of SNUFF which I got in trouble for because I spit it right out in the face of whoever stuffed it in my mouth; but mainly those creations of burlap were 'memorably' painful just to try and belong to the letterman's club.

I do remember the haunted house somewhere outside of town and a graveyard not too far away that accidentally tipped over a grave marker on and probably cursed us for life.

Also remember Coach Self turning me in to get paddled and Ms. Payne being thrilled to finally get called in to do the paddling, (as Pollard couldn't paddle the women), but then was mad I had a thick, pleated wool skirt on so she couldn't hurt me like she had looked forward to she said for years. I always admired Ms. Payne and of course Coach Payne, but evidentally she wasn't found of me as said I was a smart mouth. Will always be grateful she taught me to type fast though and after graduating invited me to play golf some with her and her group which I was totally in awe of and really got me into golf which is one sport I can still manage and enjoy. Any chance we could all play some golf if I get to the reunion?

Superintent Phillips and Mr. Pollard were Methodists so always threated to tell my dad if I messed up and Phillips was always telling me if I didn't toe the line he would have my dad moved to Darozette which me and Marsha Sharp always thought would be just the worst place to be to play baskbetball.

I loved Charlie Brownn as band director and he talked me into going into music and promised me a band directors position with him when I got out of college, but that didn't work out and crushed me, so I went on to graduate school. I remember saying I wanted to go play basketball and be a coach on graduating, as sports was my biggest passion, but was told I'd never get married and would be labeled 'badly', so music was better choice and I bought it hook, line and sinker. Glad Marsha didn't listen to that line of BS, yes? She has really accomplished a lot and I have to say getting married (except for the wonderful girls and grandchild) wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Go figure. Never did teach full time with my undergraduate Music Ed degree, but used my Masters and worked in the Methodist Church for 17 years with children and youth before leaving that for real estate, etc. Have enjoyed substitute teaching though, except for kindergartners - those teachers are to be worshiped!!

Jo: The main teacher I remember as being a Methodist was Mr. Edwards from the 8th grade. He sang in the choir so was always facing the congregation. He used to take notes during the sermon and on Monday morning in his class would recite the names of those who "misbehaved" in church. I recall that my name & Deltah's were often called and I think Susie B. was also on the list with us!

I'm glad, too, that Marsha didn't listen to the propaganda and stayed on her chosen path. She had an awesome career at Tech. I really enjoy following college basketball and especially loved the Lady Raiders when she was coaching. I sent her a note of congrats when they took the national championship in '93. Her record is pretty amazing. She is even listed on Wikipedia which is my favorite web source for information about well known people! I even have an autographed copy of her book "Tall Enough to Coach". She has made Tulia proud.

I, too, am grateful to Mrs. Payne for teaching me typing and shorthand. I thought my fingers would fall off from typing "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog". I'm just glad I don't have to ever take another typing test. They were so nerve wracking in high school!! I don't remember ever having Mrs. Payne take the paddle to my behind but I'm sure it wasn't because I was a model student.

I love hearing about teachers on this forum. When I see a name it always triggers some memory. Does anyone remember Mrs. Root? (Helen, I think)....or Mrs. Perry? (journalism teacher who always had her sweater thrown over her shoulds and was constantly readjusting the darn thing).

04/13/10 03:16 PM #230

Larry Wells

Mrs.Root was a nice old fashioned sweet lady as i recall.
Ms. Perry not so sweet or pure...Any you guys remember Ms. Waltrip ..she dated that Tech football star Donny something...she taught me alot of adjectives in eng.

04/13/10 06:12 PM #231

Deltah Roberts (Henard)

I remember Mrs. Root and Mrs. Perry. They commuted from Canyon. Mrs. Perry's husband played football for the Vikings and was an architect. He was huge and she was so tiny. Didn't Mrs. Taylor come from Canyon also? My favorite was Mrs. Shelton. I remember her always laughing and her eyes.

Cindi, I would have never made it through typing if you hadn't passed me your rejects!!!! Do you remember that? I could not type worth a flip. I also remember getting in trouble from church. Mr. Edwards would take our names and put marks for every time we talked in church.

Jo, I didn't do the VESPA initiation...remember, I quit. I was tired of getting splinters. We did have some fun basketball trips.

I liked Shirley Daluge. She coached us some and was the counselor I think.

Larry: I don't recall Mrs. Root being so "sweet" but I wasn't always sweet in her class so that could explain my perspective. (ha)

Deltah: Always glad to help. Typing was one thing I was actually good at . . .shorthand was the other. I still use those skills today! The shorthand is a sure giveaway when it comes to my age. It's a dying art and people under the age of 50 barely even know what it is. I will say that I could have lived without Home Economics and Mrs. Barnett freshman year. Cooking and sewing were not my idea of a good time in HS, but the so-called sex education class was interesting (I think we all giggled a lot). I recall we had a young student teacher from WT or Tech who taught that portion of the class. She was dating one of the young coaches at the time in Tulia. He was kind of short and wore glasses and may have been doing his student teaching, too. I think they ended up getting married. Anyway, cooking & sewing still aren't on my list of "likeable" things to do. I can find my way around the kitchen and sew on a button now and then but if I had ever been a housewife I would've been a lousy one! The only meal I remember learning to prepare was "Eggs ala Goldenrod".

Randy S: I think you need to share those interplanetary travels you mentioned!

Whoa wait a minute...the guys didnt get any formal sex Ed.
We got a few animal breeding facts in Vo-Ag... Did what yall were taught have any basis in the "real world " of high school social action? Mrs.Root was probably different in alot of ways to us guys. Some of us walked in on Souter and Ms. Perry more than once. Wonder why English attracted so many cuties with cleavage to teach it?
