Connie....I remember both brothers. I spent alot of time at your farm. I remember chopping cotton and bailing hay there. One thing I do remember about Terry, he was one strong dude...he could throw those water soaked bales on that trailer faster than anyone.
I worked for your dad at the feed lot and he taught me how to weld that summer...a talent I still use to this day.

Connie Lee (Ash)

Mike, yes you were probably at the farm more than anyone else. Were you there when that stupid horse ran away with me? I didn't know daddy got you a job at the feed yard, at least I don't remember it. You were a good worker. Daddy usually tried to find a job for a school kid if they wanted to work.

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Larry: I remember the rumors about Ms. Perry and Coach Souter in the boys' locker room. I was in her journalism class and could never figure out why anyone would want to rendezvous in the locker room. I always figured it might be a rather malodorous setting. I was never in there myself, but that's what the big girls told me. Anyway, rumors of all types were part of our high school life, huh?

Connie/Kay: I never had the pleasure of spending time in your cotton fields but I did do the "hoe" thing (not to be confused with "ho") in college with Deltah. I think it was her uncle's farm the summer of our freshman year. I also remember working one summer for Dekalb Company as a wheat "roguer" with Beverley and Vicky & Deanne Vaughn. We were supposed to pull what they called "bastard" stalks from the fields to make them nice & even. I think they were test fields and we were preparing them to be photographed or something for advertising. Beverley can refresh my memory on that one!

I do remember that there weren't that many summer jobs available in Swisher County. It was great that your dad was willing to help!

Larry Wells.....now we know why the football team did not
have Coach Souters full attention...I always thougth we were better than our records.

04/14/10 03:55 PM #240

Beverley Clark (Mauldin)

Cindi: All I remember about being a roguer is you hitting an underground sprinkler and my head busting your mothers windshield and flashing the truck drivers on our way back to Tulia. I remember one of the boys got sprayed by skunk and we would not let him in the car.

Sandra: I remember your house on dip street very well. You had a party when we were 6th or 7th graders. We were playing spin the bottle and Paul Williams and I had to go in the shed and kiss. He stood by the door and finally leaned down and pecked me on the lips and took off running out the door and feel. It was my first kiss-if you can call it that-must have been his too. Never knew I was so scarey.

04/14/10 05:11 PM #241

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Beverley: I hope you meant that Paul "fell" not "feel" on his way out (ha ha). Yes, indeed, you cracked the windshield with your head. You were lucky you didn't have a concussion. I think the windshield got the worst end of that encounter (ha). It was a Friday night and we were in a hurry to get to town. There was a truck blocking the middle of the dirt road by the field so I opted to go around. I remember it was a steel rod sticking up from the ground and it stopped us dead in our tracks. It yanked the entire under carriage of the car and stuff was hanging low. I also remember my mother's reaction (it was her car) and the monetary damage toll. I am lucky that my parents were pretty lenient. I deserved a heck of a lot worse punishment than I got for that one! I don't remember the party at Sandi's house but it was probably during one of those times when I was on the "outs" with the two of you. Lord knows we all took our turn in the barrell on that one! We were quite the threesome, huh? Any two of us could get along great but when the third was added there was always something to trigger the ousting of one of us! I think we all shared equally in the grief of being left out of things from time to time. I remember my mother getting really mad at me for hiding from you while at Sandi's house on Houston Rd. It was all her idea (just kidding, Sandi, you know I never needed your nudge to be a brat). Anyway, my mother gave me quite a tongue lashing for that one.

Mike: I remember thinking that Ms. Perry and Coach Souter were too "old" for that sort of stuff. How naive was I?

Deltah Roberts (Henard)

Randy, I think they finally asked my dad not to come back to school! He taught 45 or 48 years. I think he showed up when he wanted and left when he wanted and finally ended up telling some of them to go to hell. I was scared to death of him until I got out of High School. I am glad he helped your "academic career". He could tell some pretty good stories...

Cindi, we hoed for Dad. I hoed every summer for as far back as I can remember. Connie, it was a great way to get a tan. Dad also thought it would toughen up some of the basketball girls. WHATEVER!

And Jo just so you know...I taught kindergarten for 29 years.

Debbie, do you remember floating down the creek at your farm on a raft? I think we took our cats. I remember the barn party too. It was great fun.

Not sure I remember the Souder/Perry thing...

Larry, we thought the football team was "BIG & BAD" whether we won or not.

Sandi (Sandra) Hair (Bentz)

Cindi & Bev,

Yes I remember we were usually two against one -- but we also had some good times too (when we weren't fighting). Bev, ah -- first kiss. I think Paul Williams gave me my first kiss too -- or it could have been Wade. It was in the park across the street from our house. And Cindi, I remember your mom giving me "what for" lots of times too. I also remember Lloyd's mother giving me lots of grief because I lost his truck keys. She called my mother which really got me in trouble. But the real mess was when Mike Galyon brough me home from the baseball game 2 hours late (really, there were lots of extra innings). I thought my mother was going to kill us both. Now, what was the name of that poor band director in Jr. high that we drove crazy -- I remember we made him cry one day because we tried to play a joke on him and when he raised his baton -- we all just stared at him. Cindi and I had to go in his office and apologize for us all. He wasn't very sturdy was he?

Sandi (Sandra) Hair (Bentz)

Ralph -- too cold yet for fishing (I don't ice fish), but looking forward to June. Iditarod was great this year. Can't wait to see you trying that "last, great race". But you haven't aparently seen the motto in Alaska -- "Alaska -- where men are men and women win the Iditarod" (LOL) Hope to see you in July.

I am so glad to see my friends Delia Cooper, Kathy Whitehead and Jo Hickman finally give in and register. The forum is not to bad, some get roasted more than others, and some just burn thereselves! (but boy, is it interesting!)

Ok this is a shout out, SHEILA FOX and VICKI JENNINGS, if you are reading this quit being shy and get registered. Wondering minds want to know where in the heck you are and more important what you are tring to hide!

Deltah yes I remember floating down the creek.. back when there was water in Tulia... great fun... don't think the cats enjoyed it...

Larry Wells

Deltah I was always big on the Hornets..You gals were always great for us guys.I doubt we told you enough how much we appreciated what all yall did for us...especially the cheerleader skirts!
Cindi Dick and Ms. P were always in his office right north of the locker room...kind of a little personal Pep Rally I guess...His wife was so gorgeous too..especially compared to Ms. P.
Mike you remember that time Souter screamed calling us "Turds" so mad he was crying.

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Sandi: You're referring to Mr. Brooks from junior high band. He was a flustered kinda guy most of the time so it wasn't difficult to get him riled (or hurt his feelings). It was all in fun but sometimes when you're the brunt of the joke it's not so funny. I wonder if he continued as a band director or teacher. I don't think he had the intestinal fortitude to hang with it for long! I'm impressed that you and Beverley remember your first kiss . . . I remember my first "French" kiss outside of Joe Raymond's house and being told I kiss like a dead fish. The guy (in our class) will remain nameless because I wouldn't want anyone to question what he was doing kissing dead fish. How else would he recognize the similarity, right?

Connie: I'm with you on getting those "shy" people to step up and join in on this forum. We still have a lot of folks who haven't registered on the site! I think we're up to 42 who have confirmed their attendance for the reunion.

Larry/Mike: I swear I never even knew what our HS football team's W/L record was until long after I had graduated. I remember we all went to the Friday night games, screamed our lungs out no matter what the score. I do remember one game where it was so cold at half time that the band director (I think it was Charlie Brown) opted not to have the band march; however, he sent the twirlers out there alone to do routines while the band played from the stands. I think the game was at Dimmitt. It made total sense since we were dressed so much warmer than the band (NOT). I know that something happened at Tulia last year and they disbanded the footbal team. Maybe someone who lives there could tell us what happened. I thought it was the saddest thing I had ever heard. I sure can't imagine our HS years without football!!

Delia Cooper (Gray)

Hello all! I have read some of the message stories and I am glad to know we can all still act up and make each other laugh. Debby, I remember your hallowen party in the barn. I also remember the haunted house Sandra. I think I was with your group that the senior boys took out to the haunted house our feshman year. It was scary! I also went on the raft at your house Debby.
I do think you should at least copy and paste your stories Randy S. They are something else. You really should write a book!
I wasn't liked at all by Mrs. Root in History, and Since Mrs Perry was her carpool partner, all I got to do in tennis class was chase balls. Needless to say, they weren't my favorite teachers. I did like the Payne's and even if I wasn't the fastest typest, Ha- I did learn to be accurate. I really liked your Mom, Debby Cox. She was a great teacher for the Office Ed. Class.
There are too many memories to mention everybody. I had a good time for the most part in good ole THS. I do remember the guys getting paddled and never agreed with it. I was always too scared to do anything wrong. At least I never got caught! Ha,I new Mrs Payne could give the girls swats. I can't wait to see everbody and pray we all find our way to the reunion. I think it's good to see old friends and enjoy any time we have, with people we knew and shared an important time of our life. May God Bless us all and let us "all" have a great time at the reunion. If we made it to this age, I think we deserve to be a little crazy and I agree w/your God is good, people, people are crazy. I think we should rethink the Beer thing, but hey as long as it doesn't destroy your life. I like a drink once in a while. See everbody soon, Delia

Larry...I remember being called alot of things. We had so many different coaches in those 4 years. I remember bull in the ring, dragging tires in relays and several other in humane things which were done to us. All of football guys will have many things to discuss at the reunion.

I do remember playing in the freezing weather and no one was in the stands...might of been a B team game. I also remember Dumas and all the snow on the ground. I think that was the game Dickens decided to fake a punt and run it, except he forgot to tell the rest of us...Jerry??

Do you football guys remember our win in Dalhart. Seems we listened to some recording before the game to fire us up. It worked and we won....

The one moment I will never forget was when Doug Travis got his leg broke...what an awful site that was. Standing around sure did not pay that day.

Depends what year you want to talk about, wether we are the upper classmen or the lower classmen. Each year had its ups and downs.

I too sincerely appreciate all the cheerleaders did for us. YOU GIRLS ROCK!!!

And I will not leave out the band. Without them it would of been very dull out there. Heck the whole student body was AMAZING IN SUPPORTING US, Hey we were a team of kids just crusing through high school.

If you go to the 1969 message forum, they spent some time talking about the cancelled football season.

I heard somethings about it when I was in Tulia a few weeks ago. But I will let those that live there share their views on that.

Donna Bookout (Henthorn)

Well I'm back to just reading all these past "goins on" & wondering if I really did live in the big town of Tulia. Either I have a short memory or I was not a part of most of this frisky activity.....sigh!

I do have a few comments......I do remember all the teachers you have mentioned. My favorite was Mrs. Cox.....loved that class! I liked Ms. Ayers too.....I remember her taking our class one day and saying we apparently never learned the basics......so she proceeded to explain nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. to all of us. I think I remember that we just plain didn't like to diagram sentences!! We just couldn't see how that applied to life! Perry.....I think you were in that class too!

I mentioned to Mike (hubby) about Coaches Perry and Souter.......he swears there was a 'thing' going on b/w those two. FYI--Souter passed away a year or so ago from cancer.

Keep the tales coming......someone needs to think of a title for the book Randy S. is gonna write with all this stuff in it!

Hey ya'll
Just got back.
Been down in Mississippi and up 2 no good. REALLY!
We stayed at a Confort Inn where there was free Happy Hour every night beginning Sunday night when we arrived.
Met 3 other guys from Al-a-freeking-bama and man, we had some fun. They were drinking babby blue Walk-a-bouts, man, that stuff will knock your d..... in the dirt fast. Between the walk-a-bouts, rum, whisky, vodka and draft beer me and self don't even remember working or much else as far as that goes.
God made Mississippi for the booze, love bugs and so that Alabama wouldn't be last in everything. Thank god 4 Mississippi.
Beer is great and people are crazy
Randall

Donna: Good idea about the book title. I've been pondering that one a bit. Even though his given name is Randall, I like the definition of "randy". You can all look that up in your Funk & Wagnalls (ha). The Brits use that term a lot and it could possibly be a good fit for our Randall. He could title his book "Randy Musings about Interplanetary Travel in Tulia, Texas". The title is based on the dictionary definition added to his comments about Deltah and Princess taking him to other planets. I'm sure there are plenty of other possibilities out there. In fact, I bet Randall can come up with a doozy of a title himself!

Randall: Loved your comments about Mississippi and Ala freakin' bama. Sounds like a good time was had by all. I bet you only drink to make other people more interesting, right? That's why I do it. However, there's not enough alcohol in the world to make SOME people interesting. Trust me, I know! You can't always drink them pretty or drink them smart, either.

Hey, TGIF to everyone. For those of you who are fortunate enough to be independently wealthy and out of the work force, that's a term used by working stiffs to commemorate the start of the weekend. (in case you forgot - ha). I guess when you don't work EVERY day can be a Friday! Hope you all have a great weekend. This working stiff is on her way home!

Oh Celindi.

Shame on u. Now ur picking on me. I wondered when the devil was going 2 come out in u. U had been way 2 nice 2 me 2 long. Now if people look up the Britt, Ozzie meaning of my name I'll have 2 live up 2 it and also tell dirty stories.

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Randall:  No way! I promise I'm not picking on you, although you may be right about that devil thing coming out in me. I'm not sure I can deny that it happens on occasion.  Anyway, I was just trying to help Donna out with the title of your book.  You've written the chapters so I think it's only fair we try to put a name to the novel.  I think you should ask "self" and see what self has to say about it - maybe there's a different perspective there.  Seriously, I'd never pick a word fight with a formidable adversary like you!  I was just trying to spark your creative flow so that you would continue to elicit giggles with your legendary tales.  Don't stop now.
