HEY,

Does anyone know anything about Rulie?  I think I remember his name as (Rulie Rodregus). Wasn't he a classmate of ours. I remember he played football for a part of a year with us. Or maybe he was just on the team during 2-a-days. Maybe Freshman year?

U go dogs. Every dog is a dog; dog. But not every dog gets 2 sleep on the porch dog.

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

Happy Friday to you all!  We currently have 43 classmates registered for our July 17th reunion.  If you plan to attend please take a minute to complete the "reunion activities" survey.  You can access it by clicking on the link located on the top left-hand side of this page.  Only 28 registered attendees have taken the survey to date but we would like input from all of you!

Kathy Carlisle: You posted earlier that you and Buttons would be willing to provide a trailer/truck so we can have a class float in Saturday morning's parade.  So far, 23 people have indicated they would ride on the float. Just let us know if the offer still stands and we can make the necessary arrangements for our float to be included.  Also, I plan to order a banner we can place across the front of the vehicle to identify our class year but won't complete the order until our class participation has been confirmed.

Cornelia: Someone mentioned that you have a "shade tent" that could possibly be used in the Park during the post-parade barbeque activities.  I bet we can find lots of help to set it up Saturday morning if you are willing to pull it out & dust it off for use.  Let me know.  We can use the class banner from the float to hang on the tent.

Mike G: I recall you had volunteered to bring the "sound" equipment and some CD's from our era of the 60's and early 70's.  Just let me know if that still works ok for you! I encourage everyone to bring your favorite music in CD format. If you're like me, you've hung on to some great 8-track tapes but no longer have a means to play them . . .

Lloyd/Mark/Susie:  Can one of you guys bring your high school yearbooks to Saturday night's festivities? There was a request for this and I think it's a great idea.  Also, if anyone has photos from our school days (K-12) please feel free to bring those and share with your classmates. My suggestion would be to put them in an album for protection and to ensure you get your photos back at the end of the evening.

As I stated in an earlier posting, I will be making name badges for all attendees.  This includes guests so please be sure and include the name of your guest in your reunion registration.

If you haven't already registered to attend, please do so today! It looks like we will have a great turn out and you really don't want to miss the fun.  I have purchased several disposable cameras and will leave them on tables throughout the restaurant.  I am hoping that you will pick one up occasionally throughout the evening and take pictures of your classmates.  That way, each of us can serve as party photographer and we will get a great variety of candid shots.  I will then collect all the cameras, have the film developed and post the photos on this site!

Thanks again to everyone for their postings and participation in this forum. It has been a good source of entertainment (especially for those like me who are easily entertained)!  This site was created almost a year ago (4/27/09) and we have had almost 5,000 visits since that time.  The site only counts a visit once in any 24 hour period so even if you log in and out several times in one day it's caluclated as one visit.  Based on the math I learned from Mr. Cox, that's an average of over 400 visits by classmates per month.  Awesome!!

Take care everyone and have a great weekend!  Hugs to you all.  Cindi

The trailer offer still stands.   If there is interest, we can provide transportation.  We will need to meet at the high school parking lot about 8:45 to 9:00 to get everything ready to roll.  The kiddie parade begins at 9:30 and the county parade is right after that.  They line up down Dallas Street, so the high school parking lot would be a good place to leave your vehicles, etc.  Just let us know if you still want to do this.  Remember, we will use bales of hay for seating on the trailer, so if you have a quilt, blanket, towel, anything along those lines that you want to bring to sit on, don't forget to bring it with you to the parking lot.  We're looking forward to seeing everyone in July.

Thanks Ralphie,

U are very thoughtful. Ur mom taught u well.

If u get in touch with Pollard tell him I'll come and pick him up with my Paisley shirt on, shirt tail out, no belt, long hair and deer rifle in hand. I'm sure he'll remember me.

I'll even bring cigars and a wheel chair. Instead of going 2 the renuion we'll go to Palo Duro and I'll roll him off the rim or maybe I'll roll him down devils slide. Yew, the devil found busted up at the bottom of devils slide with redwood paddle stuck where the sun don't shine.

Cindi, I will  bring a laptop outfitted with speakers. It has a CD player and can play anything on a cd or on a USB drive. I copied all my cd's to an external HD and will use windows meadia player. For you computer savy classmates, this is pretty simple stuff. I am thinking about an hour into this shindig, we might not be able to focus real well, so I am keeping it simple.

Ralph, Muleshoe 68-0, I remember that one real well.

I remember that game too!  It was the second Friday night in a row that I had been knocked out!  My dad came down out of the stands to make sure the coaches didn't put me in again, like they had done the week before vs. Dalhart.  The week before, when they sent me back in, I couldn't remember which position I was playing and kept asking Gerald what my blocking assignment was.  He got tired of telling me and told me just to go out and hit someone!  I had been "going steady" with Marsha for about 2 years and for some reason decided that night at the Baptist church get together after the game to break up with her.  I have no idea why I was playing in the Muleshoe game.  I had been knocked silly that Monday in football practice and Coach Varnell said I could go thru the motions with no contact.  The Muleshoe game was a blowout and they were still playing me, and not letting some of the second team play.  Well, I got knocked out again and  I got extremely sick that next week and went to the hospital in Amarillo for some tests and spent the night Thursday night.  I was released Friday and my parents picked me up and we went back to Tulia, got ready to go the game in Dumas, and drove up there.  I went to the stands and sat with my parents.  Coach Souder sent a messenger up to tell me they had brought my uniform and he wanted me to suit out and stand with the team on the sidelines.  I declined.  I think that took all the football out of me.  I received scholarship applications from Tech and A&M, but never even filled them out.  I had bruised the top of my brain, due to the suspension in my helmet being too loose, letting the top of my head contact the hard shell of the helmet every time I lowered my head and hit someone with it.  It bothered me for about 6 months before it went away.  I try not to think about what "would've been" had I had a better helmet.  I was really too small to play college ball, playing the positions I had been playing in high school, so I doubt that I missed out on much.  I wouldn't trade what I have and where I'm at for anything else, anyway.  I love my wife, my children, and my grandchildren and wouldn't trade them for anything!

Randy S., I've just got to ask!  Did you give up preaching?

Kiker,

Great 2 hear from u. Glad u recovered from them Muleshoe kicks. Got knocked out once myself. It's not a good experience.

Jimmy, i was in the ministry for 22 yrs. traveled all over the world. Got my B.A. and my M. Div. (those 2 degrees took 10 yrs. of part time studies) now they are not worth anything.

Like u in the football games I finally got tired of being beat up and kicked in the head. The   politics and the stupid people power struggles finally got to me and I got tired of being the scapegoat  and being crucified everywhere I went. All the stuff I struggled  through in the ministry makes my experience in the sixties at Tulia and with Pollard look like a cake walk. So in November of 1996 they crucified me 4 the last time in Tennessee and I left and moved 2 Ala-Freeking- Bama.

Not i didn't go out lightly or quitely. Like everything else in my life I went through my ministry fighting and I went out fighting.

It kinda like social work (which I did 2 much of) counseling (2 much also) and police work, not that I policed people, but you see so much of the bad stuff, the evil side of people it get 2 u after awhile. Even old tough, bad ass me. Maybe u know what I mean.

I'm not worried about HELL. Been there, done it for 22 years. Hope this isn't more than u wanted 2 know.

Got 2 go 2 work now and tare up a store. YEEEEEEE HAWWWWWW

People are crazy

Kiker, The two people I hated to block against was you and Gerald. My 160 pounds could not move much. I just outran people, if I could.

I remember one punt where Jerry kicked it and the other team was running down the side line, I was looking across the field, and saw the runner duck his head to you and you reacted quickly and lowered your head and the runner stopped cold and went backwards. That shot was heard all over the field. I remember running over you and telling you that was a huge hit on that guy..I don't remember the game but I remember that hit rallied the team. didn't you just love punt coverage?

I do remember the Muleshoe game and you being hit very hard.

Back then, schools gave you the bear minimum equipment and if you wanted better you had to  buy it.

J. K. Milam

Kiker, I remember that. Couldn't believe they wanted you to keep playing, I remember the look in your eyes, I don't think you even knew where you were. I remember a game in Seminole where I got caught between a couple of Indians, broke some ribs, Souter wanted to know if I could keep playing after I crawled off the field. We had some fun times, but that s--- was out o' bounds. Nowadays, got my a-- in the sand, feet in the water, not a worry in the world, and a cold beer in my hand. Here's to you Randall S. God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.

J.K.

I'm right there with u, or at least I wish i was. U live in N.M. if I remember right. I always said that if I couldn't live in Texas I would live in N.M. How the hell did I end up in ALa-Freeking-Bama? That's the way most of my plans go. Well I did live in Albuquerque for a while after High School. Traveled all over the state, from the desert 2 the Mountains. A beautiful state 2 live.

FOOTBALL

OK guys, I always liked 7Th grade football. Remember? We were undefeated and only scored on once that season and I got 2 score a lot of touchdowns with the help of that awsome blocking line up front and when Treadway didn't get in the way. That year football was  FUN but each year after that it got a little bit more business and a little less fun. 8th grade we lost three games but coach had us play the wing, so I got 2 catch passes. Always loved it when Gleason came in. I knew he would throw me the ball. Sorry Dickens, but u just couldn't the side of a barn with a pass. I remember 2 games that year. One was Planview. We played in the parking lot behind their stadium. It was hard as concrete. And I remember the Canyon game. We beat them 6-0. Treadway knocked a hole big enought for a truck 2 go threw and little old me had no trouble walking in for the TD. Can't remember the coaches name our Freshman year but I remember that dam BURMA MILE or MILES he always had us run on a Monday. Remember sometimes catching rides along the way.

Rain makes the corn, corn makes the whiskey, whiskey makes my baby a little bit freskey. Rain is a good thing.

Got 2 go make a dollar, but would rather be catching Gleason passes.

Kathy C: & Mike G:  Thanks for your quick responses! It looks like we are all set to participate in the Picnic parade (yea!!). Also, we will have plenty of those "oldie" tunes for our party Saturday night.  I like your idea, Mike, of keeping it simple.  I live the "KISS" maxum daily and find it works well both at work and at home.  There's no need for unnecessary complications in life!  As for the float, I have ordered a class banner to ship to my mom's house in Tulia.

To the unsung heroes of Tulia football: It's been interesting (and educational) to read your stories about the glory days of football in Tulia.  I had no idea what you guys went through and suspect I am not the only one!  It would appear that all those movies about Texas high school football have an element of truth.  I always thought they were grossly exaggerated to add movie appeal. However, after reading your posts on this forum I am now convinced that those movies depict the true nature and dynamics of Texas football and the quest for a winning season.  As for the win/loss record during HS, you should think of those losses by remembering a great quote from Vince Lombardi: "We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time."  No matter what the record shows, there were plenty of loyal fans out there who appreciated the efforts and thoroughly enjoyed the games.  To us, you were all winners!

Lloyd: Hey, if you see Corny at your Friday lunch gathering could you follow up with her about the availability of her tent for the post parade barbeque in the park?  I don't think she is checking out the forum comments so she may have missed my posting.  I appreciate all your help with the reunion planning!

I still find it hard to believe that next month marks 40 years since we were in high school! I can't wrap my head around the fact that I am 58 in the mirror but still 18 at heart.  I'm sure many of you feel that same way.  Anyway, I'll close with one of my favorite quotes about aging that was passed on to me by someone much older and a great deal wiser:  "Never regret growing old; not everyone has that privilege."

T-Minus 80 days & counting till July 17th!
