Everybody needs to check out the new photos in "School Days": Mrs.Birdwell's 1st grade, Mrs.Roger's 2nd grade, Mrs.Pyeatt's 3rd grade, and Mrs.Hamilton's 4th grade classes.

In "Fun Pics",check out J.K. and his hot dates!!!   Cindi in one pic and Rita in another.

All of these pics are courtesy of J.K. Milam III (and Mary).

Wow Lloyd - thanks for the compliment. We all know Rita was a "hot" chick but I don't think I even qualified as "luke warm" so it was really nice of you to include me in the comment!  I have some additional pics I plan to post soon from our senior picnic.   I'm just waiting to get my scanner repaired.  There are some great shots and I just hope none of you get upset or offended if I post a pic of you with a beer or cigarette visible.  We all need to keep the photos in perspective and remember that we were 17 & 18 year olds acting our age.  There's no harm or shame in that!  I seem to recall that some of the guys traveled to Palo Duro the day before & buried the beer since most (or maybe all) of us traveled there by bus.  I even have pics of some of you on that bus!

I agree with Randy S. that it's time you people step up and share memories from your school days (or daze).  If Randy can bare his soul and share his plumbing problems then surely you can think of something to say. I'm sure others have some "PG" rated stories that can be posted here.  Randy has been very gracious to share his memories.  He has entertained us and provided many giggles in the process.  I know he's a tough act to follow but don't be shy!  Post something about your favorite teacher or share something you remember about another classmate.  What were some of your most memorable moments from THS?  Share them with us here.

The reunion is shaping up nicely.  50 classmates have registered to attend so far!  Keep working on the "missing" folks. . .

Keep the giggles coming!

Hey cindi.

Speaking of Palo Duro. Mark and I drove to Palo Duro the night before our senior trip and hid a case or two in the creek, so it would be cold for the big party. I think Pope might have been with us also. We hiked to the creek for our refreshment the following day. That worked up a thrist. Creek cold beer and you didn't even have to spit out the minnows.

rain makes the corn, corn makes the whiskey, whiskey makes my baby........................... rain is a good thing.

Lloyd how did Rhonda's son died.

Annette,

I don't know what happened to Rhonda's son. I do know that he was an accomplished, prize winning fiddle player.  He must have been a very gifted musician. A tragic loss at any rate being just 22 yrs. old.

Steve Raymond

From his obit.

"Justin was born on December 25, 1987 in Hale Center, Texas. He grew up in Kress and graduated from Kress High School in 2006 as the Valedictorian. He attended the University of North Texas and then University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and was working towards a degree in Music and a minor in business. He was a professional fiddle player and a former state champion. He was also a songwriter and could play many instruments. His favorite type of music was jazz, and he loved jam sessions, movies, roping, and bungee jumping. He was a member of the Hall of Fame Swing Band and a member First Baptist Church in Kress."

My son used to take fiddle lessons from his dad so I got to know Justin fairly well. We used to go to Bob Wills Day at Turkey and Justin would simply blow the competition out of the water in the old fiddlers contest. As a junior high kid he was better than the professionals. Justin was perhaps the most talented musician I've ever heard. When he auditioned for his music scholarship at North Texas State, a young lady accompanied him on the piano. She'd never heard him play the fiddle before and afterward, out in the hallway she was in such awe of his talent all she could do was shake her head and say "damn". More than any of that though, he was a good kid. My heart goes out to Rhonda, Gary and his brother Cory.

Thanks for the information on Justin. I didn't know anything about him and now I do. What a loss and what a shame. My heart and thoughts go out to all who knew him and will miss him. He sounds like a good and talented youg man.

Steve, remember the time you got rattle snake bit. I have forgotten all the details.

Randy, if I remember right, that was graduation Day, early in the morning we went to the line.

When he got in behind us, i pulled off on to a dirt road just to see if he was going to follow us, and yep, he did. Also, if I remember, you and the other person in the back seat were already drinking our nectar. What a shame to lose 10 cases of beer and assorted small sacks of hard liquor.

That blue chevy had a certain raised front bumper that looked very conspicuous. It must of been
from the load in the trunk..

For those you who knew my dad, it was not pleasant when I got home.

there was some talk at the police station on holding us over the night, thus preventing us in attending graduation. I am not sure how we managed to escape that cell, but we did.

To this day, I am convinced that someone called on us as we were leaving the line. The state trooper drove past us, going the opposite direction, and then wipped a u turn right in the highway and moved in behind me. Like he was looking for that blue chevy.

Gleason.

Now that you mention it I remember the cop doing a u to come after us and I still think some one rated us out. That happened to me a lot with Aunts, Uncles and older Cousins around.

I had forgotten that it was graduation day but remember it being early in the day. I remember there being four of us but can't remember who the fourth person was. Do you?

O well, I found someone else that day with a load of alcohol cause I was bad drunk and late for graduation.

Connie.

I don'tremember what I did after graduation. Probibly drink some more. But I didn't go home. Stayed out all night. YEEEE HAWWWW!

Feet in the water, ass in the sand, cold beer in my hand, life is good today..................

PS. Gleason.

Yes I was nortorious for tasting the nectar as quickly as possible. So yes I was more than likely indulging in the back seat on the way back.

You know the best beer is the coolest beer and it's the coldest right out of the freezer. So my logic was out of the freezer and down the hatch.

To all my roudy friends.

If your interested I have a friend of a friend who still makes Moonshine. If you would like a taste let me know and I'll see about getting a batch.

Gin will make your baby sin and white lightening will make you go blind.

Randy: I'm thinking that maybe we should market you to the government or the National Guard to help with crowd control.  You seem to have a knack for scaring people off (at least on this forum). I'm thinking it's because your postings are such a tough act to follow!  I think they are highly entertaining and I am glad you take the time to share and know others appreciate it as well.  I just wish we could figure out what it takes to prod others in the class to do some sharing.  I know you are not the only guy (or gal) in class history to raise a little hell.  This forum has been too quiet since your last post.  We need to do something to fan the flames and get this thread moving!  Come on people! Share a story about a favorite teacher or a good memory about a fellow classmate.    Here are quotes from our 20th reunion booklet - can you guess who said these were their favorite memories?

1. Out muscling the football team with a volkswagon bug!

2. Working on the Jr./Sr. banquet junior year & Joe Raymond painting the trash can.

3.  Going to sleep in Coach Roberts class my senior year.

4. The "A" Club would drag dip street chipping in a quarter a girl so we could buy gas.

5. Missing the bus home from WTSU during a contest. We had to return on a Greyhound bus but first had to return a record album in order to come up with enough money to buy tickets.

6. The Class of 1970 was one of the closest groups of diverse individuals I have ever encountered.

7. My most memorable moments of "dear 'ol THS" are things I tell my kids not to do.

8. I remember climbing the water tower on Christmas Eve to see the lights.

9. Rose Marie's locker.

10. Singing "Monday Monday" at the top of my lungs at 4:00 in the morning down dip street.

11. One over the counter kiss - ended up in marriage to the same woman for 19 years (this couple is still together so add another 20 years to that total!)

12. Drag racing on Tule Lake Road.

13. Having a crush on Mrs. Simmons, the English teacher.

14. Graduation night was memorable, I think, but I can't remember.

15. Our Senior Trip to Palo Duro Canyon.

16. The first football game THS won after a year of losing all the games.

17. I just wish today was like the good old days of fun, friends, and memories.

18. All the girls I dated but can't remember most of their names and all the girls I didn't date - can't remember their names either.

19. The best memories are the friendships that have endured for 20 years, and still going strong.

20. Just getting out of school without being killed by some of my teachers.

There are many more memories printed in that reunion booklet and several reference dip street, football games and FRIENDSHIP!

We are now a little more than a month away from our 40th reunion!  I plan to activate a "reunion activities" link on this page with a timetable for events as we get closer to July 17th.  To those who haven't yet registered, there's still plenty of time and we do hope you can make it!  Also, please help track down and contact those "missing" classmates and let them know about the reunion.  It has been posted on Classmates.com & Facebook and a notice has been running in the local paper for months but there are still too many on that list!

Take care and have a blessed day.  I can't wait to see you all at the reunion!

Cindi

Connie Lee (Ash)

J.K., be cool and just stick to your first response, I'm sure the statue of limitations will cover ya!

06/15/10 11:50 AM #380

Celinda (Cindi) Ward (Hanna)

JK: I don't know if it was actually my camera but I do remember taking some of the pictures.  I am also in some of them so someone else was playing shutterbug besides me.  I did end up with a few photos with the incriminating evidence captured like a true Kodak moment.  As soon as my scanner is repaired (this week) I'll be posting the pics.  I think Connie's right about the statute of limitations. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!  Like I said in a previous posting, we were teenagers acting like teenagers.  Go figure!

Also, does anyone remember the year some of us got together at the Tulia Bowl during picnic?  I have photos from that gathering, too, but I can't remember the year. I think it was before our 20th reunion so it may have been 1986 or possibly '87.  Randy Pope, Perry, Ralph, Sandy & Michael, Lonnie, Steve R., Larry, Wade, Daryl, Lloyd, Beverley, Danny G., Dick, Van and Jerry are some of the folks who attended.  We bowled and had adult refreshments (no big surprise there).  Some of those photos will also be posted but it would be nice to know when we were there so help me out by naming the year!
